General Courses
At Mandarin in Bath we have developed a method of teaching you to start speaking Mandarin Chinese in a short period of time. Our classes are fun, interactive and effective. We cover not only the language but also culture, tradition, food and songs. We believe that knowing the logic behind Chinese peoples' thinking is the key to success in learning the Mandarin language. We have had very good feedback from our students and we are confident that you will be able to start speaking Mandarin as soon as you start the course.
There are also other educational theories we have used for designing our classes. For example, we strongly recommend you and friends join the class and learn together. Our experience shows that students who can practice with someone at home, school, or work improve a lot faster than those that learn alone.
We also encourage our students to exchange their learning experiences. That is why we have a short break during the class (free tea provided). Students are able to exchange their experiences of traveling and learning during the break. This has proved to be very useful and motivating. Our tea break is always a highlight of our classes.
With our unique and flexible teaching style we are confident that you can learn the language and culture better and faster than anywhere else.
Our courses are divided into six different levels. Each level is delivered as five, two hour classes. We also can arrange tutorials on request.

Beginners' Course 1
Delivered as five two hour classes, the complete beginners' course covers the following subjects:
- Session 1 - Introduction to the rules of Chinese, phonics and tones
- Session 2 - Phonics and simple greeting
- Session 3 - More phonics and tones (these are very important)
- Session 4 - Spelling and titles
- Session 5 - Spelling, numbers and age
The aim of this course is to get students speaking Mandarin quickly and serves as a foundation for our other courses. The class size for this class will be a maximum of 15 people.
Beginners' Course 2
The second beginners' course builds on the foundations laid in the first beginners' course. It introduces more complex expressions and builds vocabulary.
Intermediate Course 1
- Session 1 - Quick revision to bring everyone up to the same starting level. Introduction of frequently used verbs and sentences. One cooking recipe.
- Session 2 - More frequently used verbs, sentences and grammar.
- Session 3 - Frequently used adjectives, sentences and grammar.
- Session 4 - Frequently used nouns, adverbs, sentences, and grammar.
- Session 5 - Measure words, sentences and the structure of Chinese family.
Intermediate Course 2
- Session 1 - Making question sentences
- Session 2 - Interests, hobbies and sentences
- Session 3 - Words for past tense and status
- Session 4 - Comparison and grammar
- Session 5 - Practice.
Next Course
We currently have weekly intermediate classes running every Tuesday from 7pm-9pm for students with at least 20 hours of previous tuition. Students may join any week.
Our next beginners' 1 course is planned for late October 2009. However if you cannot wait that long please contact us as if there is enough interest we will start it sooner.

Pricing
Each weekly class costs £15 per person or £65 for a five week course.
Private Classes
We are pleased to run private classes or intensive courses for individuals or small groups. These classes can be taylored to your requirements and can include a mixture of language, culture and business culture if required. We can supply a venue or come to your home or workplace. Please contact us if you would like to know more.
Children's Course
We have had many enquiries about children's courses and are looking at starting a Saturday morning Children's class.
